British luxury skincare brand Elemis pride themselves on combining scientific innovation with naturally-sourced ingredients to create products that match your individual needs and lifestyle. Since 1989, their product offering has grown steadily, offering anything from relaxing scented bath and shower cleansing products to elaborate skincare based on scientific studies to suit all types of skin.

By far one of the best-known Elemis products, the Pro-Collagen Marine Cream has been voted a Vogue “beauty hero” for its fantastic formula, results and reviews. Here I’ll take a look at what has made it such an amazing product, its ingredients, reviews, and my own experience using it over the past two years.

Elemis Collagen Ingredients

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream’s iconic status is due in large part to its scientifically-proven anti-ageing ingredients which make it the perfect moisturizer to reach for, starting in your 30s and on to later age. Elemis have chosen to pack a lot of high-punch active ingredients in this wonder cream:

Elemis-Pro-Collagen-Marine
  • Padina Pavonica Mediterranean seaweed rich in fatty acids and water-attracting polysaccharides; also known as “Peacock’s Tail”, these algae attract water into your skin to help maintain moisture day after day.
  • Dermochlorella another algae extract, this time from Chlorella vulgaris, which is rich in peptides and amino acids. This ingredient has been shown to have a direct impact in increasing collagen production in the skin, as well as adding elasticity to the skin.
  • Gingko Biloba powerful antioxidant which has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries for its energizing effects and overall health benefits. Specifically in the Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, Gingko Biloba fights inflammation and the destructive effects of environmental damage and ageing.
  • Porphyridium cruentum – a red seaweed, source of fatty acids and polysaccharides, boosting your collagen production.
  • Absolutes of Rose and Mimosa similar to essential oils, absolutes are oily mixtures extracted from plants. Rose absolute is known for its calming properties and impact on skin renewal, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Mimosa absolute is also a calming extract, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic.

As you can see this is a powerful cocktail of seaweed-predominant ingredients, focused on natural anti-ageing elements.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream Reviews

At first glance, the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream has gathered nothing but praise in the years it’s been on the market. Not only has it been voted a Beauty Hero by Vogue, it’s also a favourite of the likes of Kate Hudson, Lily James and Yasmin Le Bon.

Overwhelmingly, customer reviews place it in their top moisturisers and pair it with the Pro-Collagen Marine Oil and Super Serum Elixir. It’s been hailed as a go-to product but people with combination skin and even oily skin, thanks to its lightweight formula which doesn’t clog pores and doesn’t linger on your face. Nevertheless, for those of us with drier skin, especially in the winter, it’s equally as effective.

Finally, professional make-up artists reviewing the cream rave about its quality as a make-up primer, leaving a non-greasy finish and a great base to work with.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream Results

I first tried the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine range during a facial treatment and could not get enough of the face cream, so quickly made a note of the product and ordered it for myself. Ever since I started using it, I have honestly never looked back.

The Pro-Collagen Marine Cream comes in a lightweight container, easy to take with you anywhere but not too stuffy or snobby looking! I went straight for the SPF 30 version to protect me from the sun’s harmful rays in the summer, but found that using that version all year round was just perfect (after all, UV protection is also needed in the winter!).

I found the smell and consistency delightful. It’s a lightweight product, which smooths on the skin and is instantly absorbed, leaving my skin feeling hydrated and happy. After about a week of using the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, I could honestly say I noticed a healthier looking glow. With continuous use, skin becomes brighter and plumper, probably as a result of the collagen boost.

For combination skin like mine, the Pro-Collagen Marine Cream works a treat at all times of day, and I’ve put it on right after a post-gym shower when I’ve been still quite sweaty, as well as on a cold winter morning. I’ve even used it as a night cream on trips when it was the only skincare product I’ve carried with me. It’s always absorbed immediately, without leaving any residue on the skin or leaving my skin feeling dry.

Finally, I should add that it works great under make-up as well, letting my foundation settle beautifully on the skin for all-day wear.

What I Liked

  • Great moisturization for all-day wear
  • Skin feels comfortable
  • Glowing and healthy-looking from a week of use
  • Continuous use improves plumpness and elasticity of the skin
  • Nice smell
  • Lightweight feel
  • Non fussy packaging

What I Didn’t Like

This is a tough one… Basically, the only negative about this cream from my perspective is the hefty price tag.

At £87 for the 50 ml jar, it’s quite expensive. However, it does last a long time (and I’ve used it as a night cream a few times!). I’d say you can get 5 months of daily use out of the 50 ml jar, but you have to be careful not to use too much and waste it.

Final Thoughts

After switching between moisturisers for years, I found the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream an absolute god-sent. Of course, everyone’s skin is different and the ingredients work in various ways, but the combination of seaweed extracts and rose and mimosa seem to have the best effect on my skin, calming it down, hydrating it for the long haul, and keeping it glowing and youthful-looking.

I’d strongly recommend it to anyone, the only drawback being that it’s a luxury brand and therefore has a high price. However, a quick search on websites like www.feelunique.com or www.fragrancedirect.co.uk will show you some good price deals at various times of year.
